Erik Barrios-Recendez

Latinx Community Specialist

STAFF MEMBER SINCE 2024

Erik Barrios-Recendez (b. 1988) is a first-generation Mexican American artist who grew up in the Inland Empire. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a BFA in Art Practice, where he participated in a highly selective honors program. Erik was part of the 5th cohort of the Ellsworth Artist in Residency program at Art Share L.A. in Spring 2024. He is currently a studio artist at Root Division.

Erik’s artistic practice spans collage, wearable assemblage, and installation. Exploring intersectional identities he confronts cultural erasure, drawing on queer theory, Chicanx studies, and art history. Imagery from his daily life, fantasies, pop culture, and archives also informs Erik’s art.

Working for CE excites Erik because of the bustling, collaborative, and inclusive studio, connection with creative minds, and the ability to make meaningful contributions to Latinx artists with developmental disabilities.
