Tishman Speyer celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness month with CE art

Artwork by Kate Thompson in a lobby

Artwork by nine Creativity Explored artists is on display at three Tishman Speyer properties for the month of October, in celebration of the 77th annual National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Creativity Explored worked with Tishman Speyer to curate a selection of artworks for the lobbies of three downtown San Francisco properties. The displays are accompanied by custom signage educating tenants about Creativity Explored programs and the featured artists. The displays aim to provide visibility to disabled artists working at CE and educate the corporate community during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

Artworks by Laron Bickerstaff, John Patrick McKenzie, Corine Raper, and Andrew Li grace the halls of 1 Bush Street. Three prints by Bertha Otoya from the Steele Collection, CE’s permanent collection, welcome the tenants at 333 Bush Street. A diverse arrangement of works by Lance Rivers, Kaocrew “Yah” Kakabutra, Camille Holvoet, and Kate Thompson sparkle in the lobby at 595 Market Street.

About the project, representatives at Tishman Speyer shared, “We are excited to partner with Creativity Explored because we deeply believe people need community and connection. Finding new ways to meet that need drives everything we do at Tishman Speyer, and we are proud to showcase art created by our local community during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.”

NDEAM takes place each October and is hosted by the US Department of Labor to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The theme for 2022 is “Disability Part of the Equity Equation,” spotlighting the need to include accessibility and disability experiences in diversity and inclusion efforts in the workplace.

Did you know, companies identified as leaders in disability inclusion had 28% higher revenue, double the net income, and 30% higher economic profit margins than their counterparts? Sounds like some solid evidence to include disabled people in the workforce and set goals at your business to improve accessibility, employ disabled people, and include neurodiverse and disabled voices in your policies and practices.

This project is part of CE’s Professional Art Services program, where professionals and businesses can license and curate CE artwork for any environment or product. The program offers CE artists unique opportunities to partner directly with businesses and brands as working creative professionals. The program also provides artists even more opportunities to earn income from their art from licensing royalties, artwork rentals, and commissions.

At Creativity Explored, we’re proud to promote CE artists as what they are – professional working artists. Whether on museum or board room walls, Creativity Explored aims to break down barriers to inclusion for developmentally disabled artists and promote their work as important contributions to the field of contemporary art. The arts are an important and valid career path for neurodiverse and disabled people!
