Laron Bickerstaff
b. 1971 ∙ CE artist since 1997
Laron Bickerstaff creates radiant portraiture and stream-of-consciousness text-based artwork. Bickerstaff communicates with American Sign Language and is deeply aware of the visual characteristics of language. In his work, he mixes his own observations with a pop-influenced love of the brand names that populate everyday life: celebrities, stores, food and drink, and institutions. Bickerstaff is known for his use of bright geometric shapes to assemble his abstract and stylized figures and scenes.
Bickerstaff’s ASL font has been licensed by LISTOS California for a statewide campaign to raise awareness about emergency preparedness and disability. Bickerstaff's ASL font has been used by CB2 on a holiday ornament design and a pillow.
