CE artwork debuts in multi-family and veteran housing development

At Creativity Explored, we love working with community development organizations and housing directors to beautify their spaces. In 2019, we joined forces with the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) and Swords to Plowshares to collaboratively fill the Mission Bay 3 Parcel’s Edwin Lee Apartments with CE artwork.

“I don’t think I’ve seen two nonprofits work so closely together to create a housing development”
–Jaime Wong, CE Gallery Coordinator

Together, the nonprofits manage The Edwin Lee Apartments – an affordable housing development that provides 62 apartments for formerly homeless veterans and 57 apartments for low-income families with ground-floor services for families, veterans, neighbors, and the greater community.

In 2020, we were pleased to install 18 pieces of original artwork by Creativity Explored artists Pablo Calderon, Ana Maria Vidalon, Claus Groeger, Marcus McClure, Andrew Li, Ethel Revita, Vincent Jackson, and Hung Kei Shiu in the building. Works were placed in common spaces throughout the building as well as offices of the property management team.

One gorgeous series of Vincent Jackson pieces show black line-drawn figures overlaid atop regional world maps (below) which were strategically arranged to lead passersby to the shared outdoor space.

All of the installed artwork was thoughtfully and collaboratively chosen by CE, CCDC, and Swords to Plowshares.
