Armando Sanchez
b. 1996 ∙ CE artist since 2018
Armando Sanchez paints in acrylics on paper, often working with his own consistent symbology. Sanchez’s unique paintings straddle the line between abstraction and figurative modes that suggest a sense of story for his stoic glyph-like characters.
Square or rectangular heads with large black circular eyes are recurring characters that often repeat across his paintings on paper. The background of many of Sanchez’s works are black or darkly colored with figures rendered as thick blocky forms in a palette of primary colors. Many of his compositions emphasize borders or edges of his canvas.
Sanchez has recently experimented with watercolor and fabric art while working from home. Inspired by his immediate environment, Sanchez frequently uses his brother as a source of inspiration for his figurative work.
