In Memoriam Steven Geeter

Steven Geeter was born in 1953 in San Francisco and first became a CE artist in 2003, ending his time at CE in 2008. He passed away in January, 2023.

Geeter worked with a variety of materials and was always exploring new techniques and media. He tended toward colored pencils and watercolor. His innate sense of line and form was evident in his subtly powerful portraits and other representational works. The figures in his drawings and paintings with their elongated necks, narrow shoulders, and larger heads, were reminiscent of Modigliani. His work was selected to be included in a 2004 collection of CE notecards. Geeter also has had success painting portraits on wood, which were cut out into three-dimensional works.

When I came here to CE I discover I am an artist. That makes me happy.

Our STAFF shared the following about Steven:

He always seemed to be a center figure. Very friendly and very bright, well liked by all of us! His artwork reflected his positive outlook as well. Always super colorful.
