We're thrilled to partner with our friends at SAGE Studio & Gallery to present Mr. Amazing!, a solo exhibition of work by Vincent Jackson.
Vincent Jackson (b. 1961) is one of the most prolific and longest-practicing artists at CE. Jackson is known for his large-scale figurative oil pastels. His thick, defining lines break the human form into geometric shapes filled with a heavy impasto of layered colors arranged with Jackson’s masterful sense of harmony. The resulting mask-like works can be viewed as a contemporary renewal of traditional African and Oceanic folk art imagery.
Mr. Amazing! came to fruition because of something Jackson said after returning from New York City, where he had just celebrated the opening of an exhibition of his work at Summertime Gallery in Brooklyn; when asked where else he would like to show his art, Jackson replied, "Texas! I can go and get something good to eat.” Jackson has been an adviser on everything from the title of the show to the requested dress code for the attendees ("simple and elegant attire for women with little hats"), to the menu and decorations.
