Ethel Revita and Evelyn Reyes are included in a group exhibition celebrating ritual-based art practices at Charlotte Russell Contemporary.
Ethel Revita and Evelyn Reyes, both powerful artists with a rich practice at Creativity Explored, join contemporaries King Nobuyoshi Godwin, Rebecca Kaufman, and Joy Tirade in a group show exploring the ritual of making art. The result is a selection that dazzles with patterns and intentions, each work comprised of complex marks and forms.
Four works by Revita demonstrate the artists’ interest in surface design and dedication to form. Revita’s meditative arrangements vibrate and waver, while the individual geometric forms seem frozen in time like stained glass.
Reyes’ selection exemplifies her notable “carrots” - the evidence of linework defines these pieces. Firm repetitive applications of colorful oil pastel or colored pencil reveal artifacts of the ritualistic mark-making Reyes employs to build her iconic forms.
Art Ritual will open with a reception 5:00 to 8:00 pm (EST) at the gallery in Raleigh. The exhibition is on view with artworks available for purchase through May 28, 2021.
