Juan Carlos Cancino is a lawyer and public servant living in San Francisco. He is currently Deputy Assessor for San Francisco where he manages the office’s business units. He’s held several prior roles for the city and has been privileged to work on everything from the city’s small business COVID-19 response to public safety to large scale public art. Prior to working for San Francisco, he practiced as a Staff Attorney at California Rural Legal Assistance, supporting community-led development in disadvantaged unincorporated communities, mainly in the San Joaquin Valley, and was a lecturer on environmental justice at Berkeley Law School. Outside of work, his interest and energy for people and places has largely focused on community building and urban agriculture in the Portola neighborhood. He was born and raised in San Francisco and earned his B.A. and J.D. at Stanford.
