Suet Fun Owyoung

b. 1972, China CE artist from 2005 - 2007

Because Suet Fun Owyoung spoke only Cantonese, her artwork served as a chief mode of communication with her mostly English-speaking artistic community. The majority of Owyoung’s art was a combination of text and images. She deftly incorporated Chinese calligraphy into landscapes and figurative scenes, as well as abstract color fields.

Over time, Owoung’s artwork became increasingly fluid, expressive, and larger in scale. The delicacy of her line always played against the broad washes of color in the background of her paintings, for a serene balancing effect.
