Avery Johnson
b. 1995, San Francisco ∙ CE artist from 2017 -
Avery Johnson makes art because doing so makes him feel more free: “You can do whatever you want with the paper. You can take your time and address a problem you’re having.”
Johnson's preferred subjects are superheroes, animals, instruments, and teapots. He usually works in pencil and acrylic or watercolor, though he also does digital print work. Johnson has always been fascinated with line, even the line of letters. “Words inspire me to draw because they are shaped in such different ways. There’s a connection between writing and drawing because you start with a line on the paper and you can turn it into cursive, or a drawing.”
