Ann Yamasaki
b. 1972, San Francisco ∙ CE artist since 1997
With great attention to detail and subtlety of line, Ann Yamasaki creates complex compositions that usually combine painting and drawing media. Her works depict landscapes and scenes teeming with life. Yamasaki says animals are her favorite subject matter. In fact, her dogs, now deceased, served as inspiration for several paintings and drawings.
Yamasaki’s animal scenes often depict groups of animals doing various activities in their natural environment, like walruses lounging on the beach and penguins doing the back-stroke. Her subjects are exuberant and expressive; Yamasaki often depicts her subjects in anthropomorphic actions, granting her animals with distinctive personalities.
Yamasaki enjoys connecting with her fellow artists and trying out new mediums. She has been a dedicated participant in virtual programming and in creating her own art during her spare time.
